Amazon CloudWatch is AWS's native observability service for collecting logs, metrics, traces, and alarms across AWS and hybrid environments. CloudWatch Logs ingests and stores log data with up to 15 months of retention, and in 2026 the service added native OpenTelemetry (OTLP) metric ingestion with PromQL querying. Combined with Application Signals and AWS X-Ray, it provides application performance monitoring for cloud-native workloads, delivered as part of the AWS platform.

Grafana Loki is a horizontally scalable log aggregation system that indexes only metadata labels rather than full log content, keeping storage costs low by writing to object storage. It integrates tightly with Grafana dashboards and the broader LGTM stack (Loki, Grafana, Tempo, Mimir) for logs, metrics, and traces. Loki is free and open source for self-hosting, and is also available as a managed service through Grafana Cloud with a free tier and usage-based paid plans.

Logz.io is a managed observability platform (Open 360) built on open-source foundations, combining log management, infrastructure monitoring, and distributed tracing with OpenTelemetry and Jaeger support. Its consumption-based model lets customers pay only for the pillars and volume they use, with tiered storage and an AI agent to accelerate troubleshooting. It is delivered as SaaS across multiple regions.
